iPad 3G Unlimited Data Plan Service Deadline
If you are considering buying an iPad and want the unlimited data plan, then you should act now. According to a New York Times article and confirmation from the Apple website, the unlimited data plan will be only available for new iPad owners (Wi-Fi + 3G version) who order the device by 11:59 p.m. on June 6.
According to an executive at the company, who would not be identified because the company’s efforts were still being discussed internally, AT&T was exploring allowing customers who pay for an iPad before June 7, but don’t get the device in hand, to still sign up for an unlimited data account. And on Friday, a company spokesman said the decision had been made. “AT&T will honor the $29.99 unlimited data pricing for customers who order iPad by June 7,” he said.
Existing users of the unlimited plan will be grandfathered in, but to remain eligible for the unlimited plan, users will have to maintain the plan. Once you cancel, then the only choice will be the limited plan ($15.99 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB/month).
The shortage of 3G iPad is aggravated by AT&T latest attempt to try and make the people who use the most to pay more. This is good news for people who use less than 200 megabytes (about 65% of subscribers) of data a month as the price of the new plan is effectively cut in half.
